Special Educational Needs (SEND)

The Special Educational Needs and Disability Co-ordinator (SENDCo) at Burton Leonard Primary School is Rebecca Wolfe.

Mrs Wolfe can be contacted via the school telephone number (01765 677412) or by email (headteacher@burtonleonard.n-yorks.sch.uk)

Our Special Educational Needs and Disability governor is Mrs L Mullender.

Special Educational Needs and Inclusion is always a priority at Burton Leonard C of E Primary School. All staff and the Governing Body are highly committed to inclusion and work hard to ensure that provision is made for those who need it and that all children are given equitable access to our setting.

Whilst many factors contribute to the range of difficulties experienced by some children, we believe that much can be done to overcome them by parents, teacher, support staff and pupils working together.

Parents

Parents/carers views are invaluable when assessing children’s needs. At Burton Leonard C of E Primary School, we believe that parents should be involved at all stages of the assessment and review process.

Regular monitoring and progress meetings take place alongside less formal conversations.

Parents/carers are encouraged to contact the class teacher if they have any questions or concerns.

Pupils

The voice of our pupils is paramount.  Pupils are actively involved in developing and reviewing their provision.

SEND - Local Offer

All North Yorkshire maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). They are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, whatever their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. The Local Authority publishes its Local Offer which provides information for children and young people with special educational needs (SEND) and their parents or carers in a single place.
