Year 6 Bikeability 2024

Dear Y6 Parents & Carers

Further to our previous email, please see additional information regarding Bikeability, which will take place the week beginning the 24th June.

‘Bikeability ’is Cycling Proficiency for the 21st century, designed to give young people the skills and confidence to ride their bikes safely on today’s roads. More information regarding the Bikeability scheme is available at:

https://bikeability.dft.gov.uk

You can also visit our Bikeability page on the new school website https://burtonleonard.n-yorks.sch.uk/Parents/Bikeability/

The training sessions will be provided by Stage 1 Cycles and delivered by two fully-qualified national instructors.

High-visibility waistcoats will be provided. However, children need to bring clothing suitable for cycling. This can remain in school for the length of the course. The suggested kit list is as follows:

Helmet

Long sleeve top

Long trousers (e.g. tracksuit)

Outside trainers

Waterproof jacket

Full finger gloves

The number of layers should be appropriate for the weather.

Bikes must be in a roadworthy condition, with a seat and no modifications such as stunt pegs. If your child does not own a bike, please let us know as soon as possible, so that arrangements can be made. Ideally in order to participate in the sessions the children must be able to ride a bike unaided, however a wide range of abilities will be accommodated for.

Please indicate your child's cycling ability by emailing Mrs Drake with the details below.
