Homework expectations in Owl Class:

Bug Club Phonics reading books for Reception and Y1 - There will be 2 books sent home each Friday, to be returned the following Friday. At the beginning of Autumn term, Reception will take one book home each week. We will up this to 2 when we feel the children are ready. We ask that all children read their reading books at least 3 times a week and for this to be evidenced in reading records. Reading 3 times supports the children's confidence and ability to decode, read for speed and fluency and their comprehension skills.

Reception Home Phonic Book - The sounds we have been learning in phonics are written in a 'Home Phonic Book'. Children are asked to practice writing these & draw pictures of objects that begin with that sound. For example for 's', children may draw or print out pictures of a sun, star, snail etc.

Y1 spelling homework - 5 to 10 spellings are sent home each Friday linked to our phonics learning in class that week. 2 of these spellings are Y1 common exception words.

Spelling homework focuses on deliberate practice and oracy skills. Please use the 'Look, say, cover, write, check & correct' method when practising spellings. It is important to check and correct for any errors, please support your child in doing this. Class teachers will also double check when marking and any errors will be marked with a dot. Corrections can be made on the sheet or any adjacent page.

Numbots - Reception and Y1 children all receive their own personal logins for Numbots. This is an online learning platform that has been specifically designed to support children's addition and subtraction skills. In order to get the best out of Numbots, children should regularly play for short bursts (up to 5 minutes a day).
