Speech & Language Screening - Reception
I am writing to you about a Speech and Language screening check that will be taking place for Reception pupils.
Speech and language skills are fundamental. We use these skills constantly to communicate our wants and needs and to build strong bonds with other people. Language skills are also important for our learning. In school and at home, we learn new skills and gain new knowledge by listening to others talking and reading written language. The demands on language skills only increase as children get older and progress through their education.
Problems understanding language can be very difficult to spot by observation alone. Children can be good at copying their peers and using clues to hide a lack of understanding, especially during the early years. A difficulty with understanding which is not picked up early can lead to problems with spoken language, literacy and behaviour.
We are very fortunate and grateful to have the help from Jennie Bullock, a Speech and Language therapist, who is volunteering to support the school by screening all the children’s speech, language & communication skills. Screening all children will help us to make sure we have the right support in place for every child to make progress.
The screening will be taking place on Friday 8th November.
If this is something you wish to withdraw your child from, please let me know as soon as possible.
Any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Kind regards,
Emily Newell
