Our daily act of Collective Worship is the heartbeat of the school and can be transformational for all involved. It connects us all at the start of each day. It strengthens and supports the Christian identity of our school and reaffirms our vision and values of courage, love and service.
Worship is inclusive and open to all, those with Christian faith, other faiths or none. We come together as a community to enjoy a time of peace, wonder and contemplation; the input of everyone is valued.
We use a variety of worship - song, prayer, drama, storytelling and liturgy Everyone is encouraged to reflect on the teachings of the Bible and big questions about why things happen, what it means to be human and the role God plays.
Collective Worship is led by staff, pupils and Reverend Robb. We are called to worship daily and gather in our school hall.
Our CCWC collect and gather classes together to the music of 'My Lighthouse'. We begin our worship with song, after being greeted by our gatherers. Each class brings their class light and places it on the floor altar. Pupils and staff are invited to share prayers and reflections with one anther. It is a special time.
On Tuesdays we have our in-class worship sessions. Each class has a reflection area and time is prioritised to think deeply about our big questions, consider the world around us, explore our spirituality, share discussion, pray and worship together as a class. Our class reflection books show the journey of our worship week by week.
On Wednesdays, our pupils lead our worship. We have explored verses from the Book of Psalms, mindful quotes and safeguarding questions. We relate our thinking and reflection to the story of the Good Samaritan and in turn our school vision. Reverend Robb comes into school every Thursday to deliver Collective Worship, reading stories from the Bible; we love to answer his thought-provoking questions!
Our Friday Worship provides the opportunity for families to celebrate our achievements and talents with us at St. Leonard’s Church. All are welcome to hear about our exciting learning and to join together in song and prayer.
Collective worship gives pupils and school staff the opportunity to:
- Engage in an act of community.
- Express praise and thanksgiving to God.
- Be still and reflect.
- Explore the big questions of life and respond to national events.
- Foster respect and deepen spiritual awareness.
- Reflect on the character of God and on the teachings of Christ.
- Affirm Christian values and attitudes.
- Share each other's joys and challenges.
- Celebrate special times in the Christian calendar.
We use Picture News, Simply Collective Worship and our bespoke curriculum ribbons to inform the planning of our worship. Priority is given to relevant events occurring throughout the school year, ensuring that pupils are given the opportunity to explore the diverse world that we live in.
